Below are the 12 absolute commandments to working with recruiters in your job search:
- Make sure they agree not to release your resume to any opportunity without your permission.
 - Make sure they agree not to release your resume to any opportunity without your permission.
 - Find out how long the recruiter worked on that “desk”. In other words, in your marketplace specialty.
 - Ascertain how many direct placements they had last year, and so far, this year?
 - What application do they work with?
 - What type of positions do they typically handle?
 - Ask what kind of recruiter they are: contingency, retained, or internal.
 - Be sure to ask how many candidates the recruiter submits per search?
 - What mechanisms has the recruiter put in place to distinguish their candidates from another recruiter’s candidates?
 - Is this position that the recruiter is submitting you for a “split”?
 - How many other candidates is the Hiring Authority seeing?
 - Does the recruiter work with HR, hiring manager, or the VP/C Suite?
